From Lagos · Nigeria

Lagos to Cotonou.

Cotonou is the closest weekend out of Lagos: about 115 km, one border, and a city that speaks French, where the beach is empty and the exchange rate works in your favour.

The journey

By road, allow two to four hours depending on the hour and the wait at the Sèmè-Kraké border. Leaving early makes all the difference. By air the flight is short, and Cadjèhoun airport is fifteen minutes from most of our addresses.

The visa

ECOWAS citizens: no visa for Benin. Other nationalities apply for the electronic visa.

The money

Benin uses the CFA franc (XOF), not the naira: plan the exchange. We accept Mobile Money, card and bank transfer, and our rates are published in FCFA with no surprise conversion on arrival.

Hotel or furnished home?

A furnished apartment costs less than a hotel from two people or three nights, with a kitchen, a washing machine and room to host. And a concierge who answers in English as readily as in French, around the clock.

No. Citizens of ECOWAS countries, Nigeria included, enter Benin without a visa. Carry valid identification; other nationalities apply for the electronic visa.

Allow two to four hours by road for about 115 km: the distance is short, the Sèmè border decides. Early departures move much faster.
